Road safety is one of the topics, I have posted on numerous times because I simply believe we all get a little lackadaisical about how much time we spend on the roads. I was a little disappointed not to receive their running shorts because as a Florida gal I am on the hunt for a pair that works well. The first new running gear item is their mesh back sports bra. Totally comfy and light which again is great for a sweater like me...also if you are one of the lucky ladies who can workout in a sports bra this is cute with plenty of coverage.

CAPRI PANTSThese athletic capri pants have a little pocket in the front for gels or keys. This is great because unlike most pants where the pocket is behind me and I end up doing some bizarre little dance to get things out this is quick and easy.
I also like that they are anitmicrobial meaning ODOR FREE...you remember my recent posts about getting the odor out of dry fit clothing! These pants are perfect for the fall/winter ans winter/spring transition so I can wear them over half the year for running and any other time for yoga!

My only complaint was that the pants are little baggie in the crotch. I belive this may be because I have no hips and so a lot of womens clothes fit me like this. A small might have resolved this, but then I worry about muffin top :) There's just no winning as a woman some days.

ALO has a ton of cute women's and men's workout gear that you can actually wear out and about too..umm unlike all those nasty t-shirts that I finally said good bye to. So yes you can literally run your errands!

When it comes to the holidays, it’s like food has grown legs and taken to walking around on it’s own! Buckets of popcorn, baskets of chocolates and a bakers dozen of pies and cupcakes seem to magically appear at the office… in your house…at every party you attend. Americans may talk recession but we eat like kings during the holiday season.

I am the first to tell you that I enjoy a daily treat, so I’m not saying we shouldn’t enjoy this abundance, but if we are truly honest with ourselves much of the food we encounter may have walked in off a bad street corner and really isn’t worth eating. And if the food isn’t amazing to eat and isn’t amazing for the waistline…then why do we keep eating it?!

HOW TO BE A 10
I’m making it a goal to enjoy the holidays by having my favorite foods and some of those that are new to me but look AMAZING. So how am I defining what treats to enjoy?

Those that on a scale of 1-10 are a 10 will make the cut for pure enjoyment.

Pure enjoyment means SLOWING DOWN. If I am going to have a piece of cheesecake, then I want to taste it.

I will put my fork down between bites and let that taste just fill my mouth…surprisingly this often means we need LESS of that decadent food.

If I try something finding out it’s not a 10, then I’m going to put it down. I gotta save room for the once a year freezer box cookies and homemade stuffing from my mom...salivating as I even consider them!

What foods rank a 10 for you and are worth every bite?? Can you put down foods that end up not being so great or do you feel compelled to finish them? Do you eat things just to not hurt others feelings?

Luggage Thoughts

As most of you know I travel for work...a lot at this point. When I was traveling for pleasure I could pretty much get by on a little carry on bag...hey swim suit and running clothes pretty much sums up our travel style.

With work there is the computer, nice clothes...etc. I hate checking bags due to time, so I have been on the hunt for a carry on that is both functional and not 800lbs. Thus far what I have come up with is I need to be willing to spend like $200 and it's Christmas so I don't want to!

FIRST LUGGAGE
Back in the day I received my first full luggage sets as a college graduation gift. That's right mom and dad fully expected me to keep on moving and it was a great treat! However, it's just not workin for me now.

I'm open to any recommendations that you love prettys might have?? I know a lot of you travel for work as well and may have solved this dilemma.

I think this set is way cool, but will I in a year??
I think the yoga bag that I'm including as a HBBC prize from CSNstores.com will be in my future. It will work great for quick trips and of course the gym! I like double duty since I have so little storage space.

It’s easy to get caught up in conversation and not even enjoy the meal you’ve been so looking forward to…try to put your fork down between bites so you know you aren’t eating too fast, which of course leads to seconds…ok thirds if your are talking about stuffing in my case.

Upcoming Holiday Challenge Prize

With the holiday's approaching, I know around our house the annual hunt for the drop leaf will begin....did we put it in the basement? Under the couch? In the laundry room?

Putting the full drop leaf table together is the sign that the official family gathering is about to begin! We don't have a formal dining room, so there is no space to have that table fully open throughout the year...but oh Thanksgiving you need plenty of room for the plates, the center piece and of course the bread basket, etc. I try to keep all the food away from me if possible because I am a grazer, so lots of open containers for me are just an invite to keep eating!

My office is OBSESSED with Macaroni Grill. Each time that we need to work late it seems the guys always vote for Macaroni Grill and so that's what they get! Did you know that Macaroni Grill now makes a frozen meal, so you can enjoy it at home on those nights were time is of the essence.

Recently we received the Grilled Chicken Florentine to test out...it includes Chicken, pasta, parmesean cheese and a garlic sauce. Now this one bag says it holds 2 servings, but honestly if you add a side salad I would likely say this is closer to 4 servings. Beyond that most of us like to pump up our pasta dishes with veggies, so I think tossing in some steamed broccoli would have really made this wonderful.
The calories are around 500 for half the bag, so again if you instead pumped it up with some veggies and a small salad you could make more meals out of it and still have something totally fast and delicious on hand for those busy nights!

Grilling is one of the major things we miss since moving to Miami...not that it's impossible, but it certainly isn't like when the grill was on the deck and we did it every couple of days!! Recently Lawrys (and MyBlogSpark)sent some new spices and a marinade for us to try out.

My parents were the lucky recipent of this during my last visit to Kansas City!! I mean hello they've got all the goods for a grillin party...grill...kitchen...POOOOOOOL!! Now the reason I like spices and marindes is becaues they make life way easy when you are in the midst of summer fun.

My mom has long used Lawry's seasoned salt on her burgers...but I wanted to get her to step out of the box.

Shopping....WOHOOOO. I love to online shop. I realize that as an e-commerce expert it's sort of my job to know what a great site looks like and to go through all kinds of websites...but beyond that I just enjoy online shopping.

A new website called Shop.com caught my attention when I was browsing the Internet tubes and tunnels the other day. I was lucky enough to receive a Bionic Air filter system from them for reviewAND a gift card so that one of you can do some shopping as well!!

Being that I am all about living green...well I was a little confused about why this air filter came in 3 boxes...very bizarre. The reason I wanted to review this air filter is to see if it would help David. He wakes up each morning very full of..snot and we think it's largely due to all the things in the air. In the condo it seems like everything just gets recirculated and with as much kitty fur as we have, that's not such a great thing. I'll let you know more after we have been able to use it consitently for awhile.So far we like and I'm able to turn off the fan in the bedroom because this now creates a nice little hum. My massage therapist tells me it's awful to sleep with a fan on my so hey she got her wish too!

Setting up house

One of my favorite things about moving in with David four years ago was the opportunity to go shopping for furniture!! It was really exciting to find myself setting up an actual house, after so many years as a child playing house.

One of the areas I started with was the dining room...specifically because he didn't even have a table! I did find this table set, which I love because the stools slide under the table which opens up more space...but decided we'd missing having backs on the chairs.So then just to freak him out, I said we needed to go more old school and call up my childhood. I swore to him that retro dining tables were in style...he didn't bite and thank god he didn't like it either. Honestly, if I were able to create the big old grand house of my dreams...it would probably have a very victorian feel like this

Do you like to shop? Well I like to shop online! I used to say I wasn't much of a shopper, but the truth is I am a FANTASTIC online shopper. I can find deals and bargains galore.

As summer has descended upon Miami, I realized that if we could just find a good ceiling fan for the living room where we are surrounded by windows, it would keep air circulating and keep it from feeling like I was baking all afternoon. Sweaty Bands, Power Balance and Principessa Review

SWEATY BANDS
During my day of fun at the AVP tour, I noticed a Sweaty Bands booth...imagine my surprise when I walked up and recognized the person working as Donna the owner! She is so pretty and was of course sporting a Sweaty Band!
Right so the owner is great, but what about the product…AMAZING!!! I was a skeptic because anything that small has never stayed on, but David will tell you it’s now a staple in my wardrobe and running. They are so cute, I wore it all over Key West, DC…KC…Miami…yeah. The only other thing that has worked for me is Bondi Band, but seriously these are so friggin cute and sooooo much smaller, I love it.

Here I am pre and post 8 miler…notice nothing has changed except I’m sweaty.
PRINCIPESSA
Summer is approaching...we're all trying to get in that extra workout over lunch, but the problem is we don't have time to shower and well the hair just looks a little crazy. I ran across Principessa and they were kind enough to send me their dry shampoo to try and share with you.

Clearly this is meant for your lighter workouts OR as I’ve discovered is perfection for those mornings where you wake up late and your hair just needs to be revived but not really washed! It saves your hair because over washing dries it out and is so quick. It definitely blends in better to blonde hair, but really it’s white powder so it’s just about rubbing it in and not overdoing it. My hair felt great and looked instantly better.

POWER BALANCE
Again during the AVP tour I noticed a couple of the players wearing these bracelets and I had to find out more...could it be something that would help me run better? Here is what mountain biker Willow Koerber had to say:

Ok so besides the whole magnetic issues requiring it to be on the other wrist, truly something is different. Is it the reason I was able to hit 9.4 on the treadmill? Maybe, I'll let you know in a few more weeks.

I found this tinted moisturizer and have been using it religiously to try and prevent any additional damage to my face. Wohoo it's giveaway time once again. I am very excited to bring you a chance to win a package from Progresso soup....if this little bowl doesn't get you excited well then I just can't help you! Soup it’s supposed to be a dieters best friend…I keep hearing this from all the current “How to keep your New Years resolutions stories.” All right I’m game; I wouldn’t mind knocking off a few lbs. So when I received a free package of soups from Progresso (look for a chance to win yours below), I was off to the races with a daily soup for lunch plan. BUT then I looked at the sodium content and thought this might be better for a few times a week. Now in all fairness each can is 2 servings, so if I only ate one serving at 600 mg that wouldn’t be a problem…but when I can eat a can of chicken barely soup as a 160 calorie lunch…I’m eating the whole thing!! A couple times a week this sodium won’t bother me because I don’t have cholesterol or heart issues, but other days I know I’ll be getting my fill from other places…heck a slice of bread has 200mg!

“The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,400 milligrams of sodium per day” and they state you only need about 500 milligrams for body function. I do believe the number is higher for those doing high intensity workouts due to sweating.

So I started off with the Italian Style Vegetable (perfect for a rainy day) and fixed up the Beef Pot Roast Soup for David. We were both FULLY satisfied and in love with the taste…we enjoyed it with a little rye bread and umm maybe a jelly bean or two for dessert…I know and I was worried about sodium?!
Now let's move on to how friggin cool is this cup/bowl? Are all people obsessed with fun new bowls? I think the answer is yes based on what I see on other blogs (Ehh Hem PBJenny). Anyhow I thought it was very exciting to see such a WIDE variety of soups that are all 100 cals or less and many filled with veggies which always makes me happy.

All of us healthy eaters sometimes find ourselves short on time or looking for something we can stash in a bag or purse for a snack later. Recently I have been lucky enough to come across two bars that just must be shared. Both are delicious and I love that they come from people who truly love nutrition and are both made by hand!!!

AGAPE NUTRITION BARS
For my raw foodies, this is your bar! Like Prana and Boomi it’s a raw bar…but also made by hand with love from this wonderful woman Chef Carolyn. Seriously…food made by hand that is uncooked, moist, tasty and only 140 calories per bar…people I don’t know how it could get any better for your body or soul.

Agape nutrition bars comes in four flavors, of which I have now happily taste tested 3: Apple Cobbler, Blueberry Ginger, Cranberry Orange. These bars have been a staple on my quick flights lately to ensure I have a snack that just feels good in my body and fills me up with 5 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein. Bars like this just get me excited reading the ingredient list and thinking, OMG I know all of those words and they are delicious!

I also just checked out Chef Carolyn’s raw weight loss system and I won’t lie…after tasting these I’m highly tempted to give it a go and see if it would help with these last few lbs and my running!! Any who if you are interested in your own taste of Agape check out her store, the bars are $30 for 12 and yes they are decent sized bars, so the pricing seems comparable to what I am seeing from other nutrition companies like Amazing Grass.

SOLSTICE BARS
Now friends…if you are ok with things being delicious, but not 100% raw…oh friends I have a treat for you. These bars are organic, natural, vegan and aptly called Solstice because they are out of this world. Goji berries, dark chocolate and peanut butter…really do I even need to tell you anything else??

Each bar averages 6 grams of fiber and 8 grams of protein…seriously made by hand…filled with wholesome ingredients. They aren’t super sweet, so they make a good treat that will not leaving you craving more treats.

In fact, Solstice was in the goodie bags for a number of celebrity events, which means not a lot except hello when the celebs are asking for them you know us commoners will be on the bandwagon soon…so you need to check them out! You can find a store via their website. The price is actually better than I have seen for many bars lately…per their site a case of 50 bars is $102…so $2 a bar, most are closer to $3.

Solstice also sent me a yummy blend that I mixed up with one of my nightly bowls of Kashi…mmm could you make a nice simple bowl of cereal any better? NO you really couldn’t.

What an interesting company this is…a little sex appeal thrown in with some weight loss advice. Laura sent me some cocoa almonds to review and then of course share with you in this fantastic giveaway. The idea behind these treats is that they allow you to indulge, but at the same time they serve to curb your appetite.

My sample arrived with an adorable note, which just always makes things feel more personal…and the brochure which just made me giggle because it’s so sensual. Now a lot of people relate food to …eh hem, but I’m not one of them, so I giggled.
Any how post giggle, I dug in and found that the cocoa almonds had a nice light flavor. They were not super sweet leaving me with a desire for more and I must admit….they really did curb my hunger. Could be the protein or could be the DHA and other things they put on these babies. You have to checkout their site to see more on the nutrition and weight loss claims…I mean the pictures crack me up, but hey it’s about the product right?!

Normally I am a fan of things that are natural, so this is a departure from many of my reviews. But I enjoyed them and let’s be honest I was much happier to indulge in a few cocoa covered almonds than a cookie baked with who knows what, so overall a great treat from my perspective. OK I AM POSTING THIS EARLY because you guys are all so darn nice, acting my 6 miles was something special...seriously I miss my 14 miler days. Also don't forget to checkout LIL Runners Bake Sale for charity!!

Tofu and I have this weird relationship where I walk by...then go back and pick it up...put it down...and repeat cycle! I just really couldn't imagine that I would know what to do with it. However as I have ventured in to cooking, I'm realizing I can do much more than I thought. So when Nasoya came out with these new Silken Creations...it was game time.

In an effort of full disclosure, I have to admit we got off to a rocky start, as they sent me some expired tofu...not once but twice. BUT then I tried the products and realized they were good and HELLO we all have issues when we get so dang busy...PLUS THEY WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU!!

VANILLA
Ok first up is the vanilla...probably my fav which is no suprise I love vanilla ice cream! You may have noticed this in a lot of my Green Monster twist recipes. It worked like a charm since I never have any milk on hand.
But I also used it to make chocolate chip cookies! They have a ton of recipes on their site, but I started with a version that made a very soft cookie...David ate 3 of them and had no clue they contained tofu...SCORE!
CHOCOLATE
Also seen in my green monsters was the chocolate silken creation...perfect for a dessert smoothie. However, I also decided to spoon some up with a Gluten Free Life Chocolate chip muffin (what is that another giveaway item??) and seriously that may be one of the best desserts I've made at home in a long time!! Is this why my weight is creeping up?Now they also have this picture of BEAUTIFUL pie on their site, so I thought ok let's give it a go. I made the pie as you saw for our BBQ Saturday and it was pretty good...but their's looks SO MUCH BETTER! So I didn't do something right, but hey you live and learn.STRAWBERRY
Ohhh strawberries, they make me happy. Once again...yes I've used it in Green Monsters and friends it is soo good. But I had to be more creative than that so it was time for POPSICLES! I haven't made these in eons, so I busted out the frozen blueberries/strawberries and blended everything together then filled the holder....YEAH!! Talking to people who have allergies and can't eat gluten, I found out that well...everything TASTY had gluten and they weren't able to enjoy it. Many new products have started to hit the shelves, but the reason I am happy to introduce you to Gluten Free Life is because it's this adorable family run business (which is actually now up for sale, so if you have a hankering for a bakery...let me know!).

"We started a bakery business here on our farm about 7 years ago with some friends. Originally it was a wheat bakery called Bread of Life. When we moved that business to a larger facility this one was sitting empty.

A number of people approached us wishing we would create gluten free products, so I began test baking every Tuesday for a year. I tried many very highly touted recipes only to find that the texture was usually not very comparable to a wheat based product. (Not being allergic to gluten came in very handy at that point as I was comparing my gluten free items not to other gluten free items, but to my freshly baked wheat products from the other facility.) Amy of Gluten Free Life sent me some cookies, muffins and bread to prove that gluten free can in fact be wonderful. I had no trouble enjoying every last bit of these cookies. My favorite was the Flax Shortbread cookie, which jsut tasted amazing.

Amy also sent over some muffins.. I mean how on Earth could I offer you a giveaway of goodies without really knowing they are good...and oh they are good. David tested out the Apple Pie and loved the taste but thought it was too crumbly, well I figured out that just a bit of time in the fridge cures that and the other muffins magically started disappearing.
You may remember this conncotion of muffin and Nasoya..mmm it's one of my new favorite snacks!Last but not least BREAD!! This is the bread I used for my magical sandwich recreation with roasted red peppers and such...pretty good. It's only 56 calories a slice which is much more diet friendly than the other baked items, but hey those are seriously good treats!

SHORTS
Many of you have heard me talk about my great love of McDavid compression pants and leg sleeves...they were my saving grace during the Olathe 1/2 marathon and my WONDERFUL recovery tool post San Diego...seriously it's true love my friends.

Now because of Joey at McDavid I was also lucky enough to get some women's compression shorts...which the current injuries have limited my use of but I am like white on rice now with these babies...so of course I would like to share!!! McDavid Compression Shorts

SOCKS
Last year was the first time I truly realized how important socks could be to your runninng... I mean yeah I'm on my feet for 4 hours, but isn't it just my shoes that matter. No my friends it is not. DryMax was my first introduction to sweet sweet cushion...but I'm not afraid to venture out and after hearing some folks talk about Balega it was time to see if the hype measured up.First up were the Lady Enduro socks...overall I'm a big fan, they are soft and cushy and do all the right things to make my feet feel FABUUUUU. My only complaint is that for me personally the sock is just a little to high, I like the lower one's...which would be the second pair and my total FAV that I tried out. Ha! Tell me you don't love the top of these socks!! They were so soft it felt like putting on slippers and very low cut, but with the small tab in the back so that you wouldn't rub your heel if they slipped a bit. Yeah perfection.

So for you my friends I have 2 pairs of Balega Enduro Women's running sock is a size Small (6-8 shoe size) and for another winner 2 pairs Balega Enduro Women's running socks in size Medium (8.5-10.5)... that's right you big old feet people like me size 11...are SOL.

I am traveling for work and so very sorry I forgot my camera...seriously sweet digs and I'm meeting with college kids, they are too fun!!! To make up for my horrible blogging...I leave you with this.

Above is my first usage of Amazing Grass...CHOCOLATE!! Mixed up with a banana, some spinach, cucucmber and water...seriously you can indeed make a green monster greener! E-Cloth Giveaway - CLOSED

As part of the Whole Life Challenge that Heather started, I decided to continue making changes in my household cleaning. Recently I switched to Seventh Generation dishwasher soap and I picked up some all natural cleaner.
Those were a great start, until I found E-Cloth and now I feel like my house is going to be way healthier! "Chemical free cleaning for all hard surfaces." After receiving both the kitchen and bathroom pack, I won't lie my advertising riddled brain was thinking how on earth could these really clean my house with just some water. Test 1: Stove Top
Ok so my stove top was err a tad dirty from all that cooking this weekend. I often hate cleaning the stove because it means taking off all the burners and soaking them and scrubbing. But with E-Cloth all I did was wet it down and start wiping...NOT even scrubbing, just wiping and seriously everything was coming off!!

Poor David was trying to talk to me and I kept saying "HOLY cow, seriously look at this!" He didn't really care, but I was super impressed and thinking how nice it would be not to smell chemical cleaners. In fact, I'm reading a great green book about how the true smell your house should have is NO SMELL, THAT IS CLEAN. And no it doesn't just push the dirt around, "E-cloth Fiber Deep Cleans Absorbs moisture, lifts and traps dirt, grease, oil, grime and bacteria."

Test 2: Bathroom
I've noticed a funk on the shower curtain...and to be fair I have been spraying stuff on it like crazy, but that didn't seem to be doing much. All right, E-Cloth what have you got...I wet down the bathroom cloth and started wiping...NO JOKE it's coming right off. Definitely have not been this excited about cleaning in ages! But I love that all I have to do is wet something down and wipe or scrub and done...no smells, no weird cleaners, no foaming and waiting.

E-Cloth is not only good for you, it's good for the environment by reducing your usage of chemicals and of course paper towels!!

So I started today on the right track for SBSD...Turbo Jam abs, seriously I am in love with this ab workout. Then I went to work. Got frustrated. Had two pieces of cake and a fun size pack of M&M's. Excellent. After that I decided I should clearly have more than enough energy for a good run... and I DID!!!

6 miles straight through no walking. I definitely have some cardio to get back, geez that was way harder than I remember but I did it and hopefully I burned off that cake and am back on my way to good abs.
